Seratonin - Validation of The Thesis

The Breakdown Seratonin is building a metal band the old-school way - from the ground up, with zero compromise, a DIY merch operation, and shows that most bands would never even think to book. If you want to know what it looks like when a new heavy act leans all the way into community, chaos, and raw energy, this one is for you. Ryan sits down with Joe and Randall of Seratonin, the Central Texas band pushing unapologetic, high-octane music that pulls from nu-metal, hardcore, thrash, and the kind of live-wire energy that turns a room into a sweatbox. They break down how the band formed, how the lineup came together with Eric on bass and Jeremiah on drums, and why they’re more interested in getting people moving than fitting neatly into a genre box. You’ll discover: Why the band name Seratonin is more than just a clever word choice - it’s a statement about modern brain rot, short-term dopamine hits, and getting people back into real-life experiences How the group is releasing a four-track EP at the end of August instead of chasing endless single drops What working with producer Brett Wassom brings to the record and why they’re aiming for a sound that’s neither overproduced nor garage-demo raw How they landed a wild EP release event at Cowboy Harley Davidson in South Austin and why they want to tap into biker, car meet, and drift communities Why playing with legacy act Unloco is a major validation moment for a band still introducing itself to the scene Joe shares his path from Hawaii to Central Texas and how a long love of heavier music shaped his vocals, while Randall traces a globe-trotting life through Louisiana, New York, LA, Asia, Sri Lanka, and back to the South before landing in the band he always wanted to play in. Together, they open up about the strange power of starting out as a mystery band and proving themselves through energy, not hype. This episode is for anyone who loves underground music, DIY culture, and the thrill of finding a band before everyone else does. Seratonin is betting on live shows, real connections, and word-of-mouth buzz over algorithm games - and they might be exactly the band you’ll want to say you discovered first. INRVRY - Married In the Mosh Pit

The Breakdown INRVRY turns a Dayseeker concert into a life-changing moment - and their story is only getting started. If you love music with heart, this one gives you the origin story, the family ties, and the hope behind one of San Antonio's most interesting rising bands. Mando Vargas opens up about building INRVRY with his wife Celeste, their close-friends-turned-bandmates Leo and Chris, and how a song that started as a voice memo became the spark for a full album. From the first track, Intuition, to Grace, Notions, and the new visual for Iridescent, the band shares how they keep the focus where it belongs: serving the song. You'll hear how Dayseeker, Nothing But Thieves, Paramore, and Nothing More shaped their sound, why their music lands somewhere between metalcore, alt-rock, and worshipful honesty, and how a surprise proposal during Homesick became one of those stories you never forget. Celeste jumps in too, bringing the band's mission into focus - giving listeners hope through pain, loss, depression, and anxiety, and reminding people they're not alone. We also get real about storytelling, faith, identity, and what happens when music becomes more than entertainment. For anyone who cares about the human stories behind the songs or wants to discover a band creating with purpose instead of chasing hype, this episode hits hard. KNOW//SUFFER: Rack Full of Spices, Many Flavors of Sound

The Breakdown Most bands have a story, but few have the wild, hilarious, and sometimes downright bizarre adventures these guys do. Imagine walking into a garage and being told “Hey, you’re the vocalist now” — without asking. Or the time their van was attacked by skinwalkers on a Texas highway. If you think “crazy band stories” are just a cliché, think again. This episode with Know Suffer is a no-holds-barred, no-suffer (see what I did there?) look into a band that’s been around for nearly three decades, witnessing everything from skinwalkers to crashed vans, all while keeping it real, raw, and deeply musical. You’ll discover how a band’s evolution is more than just riffs and lyrics — it’s about respect, resilience, and surviving the chaos that comes with being real in a scene that’s always changing. We break down their wildest road trip stories, from a fog so thick it felt like a horror movie, to a mechanic who fixed their fuel pump with a sparepart — in 40 minutes flat. Jay and Toast spill the tea on what it’s like to be the “big fish” in El Paso’s scene, their secret to longevity, and how they thrive amidst Texas’s massive, sprawling tour circuits. We delve into their latest album “The Curse of Care,” exploring the songwriting process, lyrical depth, and how they stay true to their roots—metalcore, death metal, and everything in between. Plus, get the scoop on their future plans — a Texas takeover, a legendary Texas BBQ recipe, and why “the more you suffer, the more you know.” Whether you’re a hardcore fan or just love stories about bands risking it all on the road, this episode is packed with heart, humor, and some seriously good riffs. Cytera: Practice Makes Permanent

The Breakdown Most metal bands are happy enough to talk about riffs and mosh pits, but Cytera? They dive headfirst into the chaos—from their first stage nerves to the wild stories of playing Chili’s or imagining shows at nursing homes. These guys are raw, real, and ready to take the stage... possibly in Japan or in your backyard (well, maybe). In this episode, you'll discover how this Austin three-piece got their start—bouncing back from hiatus, channeling social issues into heavy tunes like “Crave” and “De-Throned,” and what it takes to survive your first gig (spoiler: it's mostly about band camaraderie and practice). They share foolishly funny stories about rehearsals, insecurities, and how to handle stage fright without turning into a total nervous wreck. We break down their upcoming plans—more gigs, new releases, and even their hilarious nightmare visions of playing at Waffle House. Plus, get the scoop on the wild themes behind their songs, from drug obsession to fighting off the shadowy perils of the music industry—and maybe even a little “Nursing Home Metal.” Perfect for fans craving heavy riffs and honest stories, or anyone who thinks band life is all long hair and loud amps. Whether you're a metalhead, a future frontman, or just a curious soul who loves a good laugh, this episode will inspire you to get on stage, face your fears, and maybe dream up your own Chili’s gig. And remember — don’t take more than one Cytera per eight hours—side effects may include headbanging, giggling, and a sudden urge to start a band. Support these guys, stream their tracks “Crave,” “Alice,” and “De-Throned,” and prepare for their stage debut—probably sooner than you think. This is metal storytelling at its most raw, real, and ridiculously entertaining.
