RoR Road to Aintree Kathryn Martin- Riding and producing horses both in racing and Post Racing

Send us Fan Mail In this episode we have Kathryn Martin. Kathryn works in racing and gets to not only see and ride these horses whilst in training, but also gets to train them post racing and compete them for her boss. This is a wonderful insight into how training develops and changes according to what the horse is doing and really focusing on not only the physical preparation of both horse and rider, but also the mental aspect as well. Episode 63: Pat Cummings; National Thoroughbred Alliance, the SAFE act on preventing Thoroughbreds being in Kill pens

Send us Fan Mail Pat Cummings is the executive Director for the National Thoroughbred Alliance. In 2025 Pat was quoted as saying that TB aftercare is woefully underfunded (in the USA) and since then, has been one of the main driving forces behind the SAFE act, which is to help prevent thoroughbreds from ending up in kill pens. The National Thoroughbred Alliance's statement is to; disrupt the status quo, facilitate communication across industry stakeholders (owners, trainers, jockeys, tracks, and bettors), and implement meaningful changes to ensure the sport's long-term health. In this episode we talk about the demand for the thoroughbred, the essential steps needed for the first two homes and how the landscape of aftercare in the USA will look in the up and coming and future years This is a MUST LISTEN! Please enjoy, share and go to the National Thoroughbred Alliance to find out more about the incredible work that they are doing Louise instagram: @thoroughbred_dressage Facebook: Thoroughbred Dressage Website: www.thoroughbreddressage.com Support the show

Over the Rails- The Fairy Tale Ending- is this possible in retraining?

Send us Fan Mail The concept of a 'fairy tale ending' is very common in our world as we have grown up surrounded by Disney films where there is always an ending that ends well. With retraining does a 'fairy tale ending' actually exist? Are we striving for perfection? Does this exist? Is this a fair question to ask of our horses? Lots to think about and discuss Support the show

Episode 61- Jude Worthington- Ex racehorses competing in Horseball for Team GB

Send us Fan Mail Thoroughbreds are known as one of the most versatile and adaptable breeds horses. Racehorses are bred for their speed, agility and quickness of foot. Combining these two attributes makes for brilliant polo polocrosse and maybe, the not so well known sport of horsetail for horses transitioning out of racing. In this episode I talk to the lovely judge Worthington who has taken several ex racehorses, and with her partner, competed them at the highest levels of horseball (competing for Team GB) We talk about how these horses are trained, alongside ether management and how these horses also compete in other disciplines alongside the fast paced life as a horseball horse Louise instagram: @thoroughbred_dressage Facebook: Thoroughbred Dressage Website: www.thoroughbreddressage.com Support the show

Send us Fan Mail 'But surely all you do is just sit there and the horse does all of the work?' This is just one of the many phrases we, as equestrians hear. Add in retraining a racehorse, and peoples perceptions can sometimes get us feeling a little less than great. How do we manage and navigate this whilst still enjoying the retraining journey?
