#188 Countdown to Doomsday Part One (Namor '66 + FF '67)

Never ones to shy from a challenge, the fellas decide it's time to peruse the not-so-FANTASTIC animated history of one Victor Von Doom, starting with his first appearance sending Namor into space, then finding out his FF '67 origin's even whinier than usual. The fellas talk a lot about cheap animation, witchish voice choices, and so much more! Don't miss it! THE DAY OF DOOM IS INEVITABLE!

#187 The New Fred and Barney Show (1979) S01E01-E02

Flintstones, Meet the Flintstones, They're the... Wait, aren't D and Andrew supposed to be watching Superhero cartoons for this bit. Luckily, Fred and Barney WOULD team up with a superhero... just not on the show or in any scenes with dialogue and certainly not for these episodes. Listen as the fellas discuss sitcom tropes, good animation (it's so nice), dragging out the bit for a half hour episode, and much more!

#186 Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle (1976) S01E01-E02

Tarzan, Tarzan, lord of the jungle, king of the wild frontier airlines... Wait, wrong song. D and Andrew delve deeper into the Filmation Extended Pulp Adaptation Universe (FEPAU) and discover ... well, they discover a very white Africa. So they get to talk about ALLAN QUARTERMAIN and all sorts of other topics, such as Tarzan in the popular culture, and so on. But the fellas do make it keep it fun, of course. Even when they get very, very distracted.

#185 The New Adventures of Zorro (1981) S01E01-E02

D and Andrew head to Ye Olde Los Angeles to catch up with Filmation's Zorro! Listen as the fellas talk pulp heroes, Filmation budgetary restraints, hired out animation studios, costumes, sidekick names, pirates, structural engineering, and much more! Don't miss it!

    #184 Ruby Spears Superman (1988) S01E01-E04

D and Andrew head to 1988 Metropolis for Superman's fiftieth birthday only to discover they're post-Superman: The Movie AND post-Crisis so instead of a quinquagenarian Man of Steel, it's a nice mix of movie and MAN OF STEEL. Tune in as the fellas discuss Superman, cartoons, and Superman cartoons. Oh and the arcade game. They probably talk about the arcade game. Da na na na na

    #183 Space Stars (1981) S01E01-E06

No longer content with terrestrial adventures, D and Andrew head to the stars and find a bunch of dogs flying around, led by Astro Jetson. No, there's never any explanation why Astro abandoned his family, no there's no Space Ghost crossover with George, it makes no sense! Join the fellas as they talk Batman in space, lousy barbarians, teen titans, and much more!

  • September 14 · 52 min

    #182 Swamp Thing (1991) S01E01-E02

D and Andrew head to the swamps of Kennerlandia for the only action-figure-tie-in comic book adaptation animated series. Listen as they try to figure out why the UN-MEN are already UN-MEN, if the supporting guys are just the characters from RAMBO, how old Abby Arcane's supposed to be in this one, and what's the deal with these shows always going to South America. And much more!

  • September 5 · 58 min

    #181 The Thing (1979) S01E01-E04

D and Andrew head to the picnic ground down the street from the inner city playground near the suburban high school and its houses to catch up with Benjy Grimm. Is he a superhero turned into his teenage self? Is he a hostage of Archie knock-offs, why is his old gang against him, why does he like the obviously terrible girl... so many questions, so few answers. Is it even clobbering time? Tune in to find out!

    #180 Spider-Woman (1979) S01E01-E02

Over a questionable mix of Count Chocula and Fruit Loops, D and Andrew head to that very special corner of the Marvel Universe: the copyright protection character. In this case, Spider-Woman. Listen as the fellas talk supporting casts, Cousins Oliver, Spider-Man continuity, flying pyramids, major guest stars, and so much more!

  • August 5 · 54 min

    #179 The Incredible Hulk (1982) S01E01-E02

D and Andrew hop in the pickup(?), put on their gallon hats, and head West to hang out with a very special Marvel guest star who hasn't appeared on 709 Meridian yet, but the fellas have been on the lookout. Even if he does come in disguise as a honkytonk Leif Garrett. Yes, we're talking about [REDACTED]! Plus the fellas get to talk about Doc Ock in his pre-Molina villainy and why Bruce Banner just can't catch a break. Pour yourself a bowl of Cap'n Crunch and join them for another Superhero Saturday Morning at 709 Meridian with... THE INCREDIBLE HULK!

    #178 Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (1981) S01E01-E02

Starting a very special season of 709 Meridian, D and Andrew invite you to return to an era of simultaneously infinite yet incredibly limited when you think about it superhero shared universes with Superhero Saturday Mornings at 709 Meridian. Each episode, the fellas will be watching two episodes--in order--of a Saturday (probably) Morning (probably) Superhero (Definitely) Show. This episode they kick it off with 1981's SPIDER-MAN AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS. Lots to discuss, including Firestar as the grown-up, Doctor Octopus's pre-Molina place in the literature, iconic Iceman, grooving tunes, and much more! Including some #realtalk about Green Goblin characterizations. Tune in!

#177 Masters of the Universe (1987)

D and Andrew return to world of Cannon muscle man sword and sorcery with the 1987 debacle MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE. Listen as they discuss better movies, better projects for the cast, worse projects for the cast, which of the crew are very bad men, with a special eye towards MOTU87's place in the end of the first sequel chasing blockbuster era! Catch it! NOTE: the audio for this recording has some problems. We got too close with the Cosmic Key.

#176 Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010)

D and Andrew return to the DC Animated Universe, except this time they get to talk about one of the good ones... Bruce Greenwood as Batman, Doogie Howser as Dick Grayson, Jensen Ackles as Jason Todd and Hank Azaria as Ra's al Gh--wait, no, it's Jason Isaacs. The fellas probably don't get into that one but who knows, they get into the whole Death of Robin II, the Resurrection of Robin II, the animated movies, etc, etc. Check it out!

#175 The Adventures of Hercules (1985)

D and Andrew board the Argo, the Pinto, or the Santa Maria and head back to ancient Greece for THE ADVENTURES OF HERCULES (AKA THE ADVENTURES OF HERCULES II AKA HERCULES II), which brings back Lou Ferrigno and the villain (and the villain's daughter) from the original, but none of the charm. It's an interesting example of how 80s schlock can go wrong. Doesn't make for a fun watch, but it is interesting. Join the fellas as they try to make it through.

  • Sep 21, 2025 · 1 hr 44 min

    #174 Hercules (1983)

Unintentionally, D and Andrew return to the land of Cannon, albeit the Roman dubbed variety. But Lou Ferrigno shows up for the job and gets through the frankly FANTASTIC nonsense. It's a lot and it's kind of awesome. WATCH HULK FIGHT RADIO SHACK TINKERTOY!

  • Sep 3, 2025 · 1 hr 47 min

#173 Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold

You know... for a movie about Allan Quatermain's colonialist a** finding the lost white tribe of Africa... it's nowhere near as problematic as D and Andrew were expecting. It's not good, for sure, but it could be worse. Though they do realize something that isn't good (but also isn't worse). And the fellas aren't the only ones silly for showing up here... JAMES EARL JONES does too!

  • Aug 18, 2025 · 1 hr 46 min

    #172 King Solomon's Mines (1985)

Ever committed to the summer of duologies, D and Andrew watch KING SOLOMON'S MINES, the 1985 imperalist, colonizer Indiana Jones knock-off starring Richard Chamberlain and Sharon Stone. It's a lot. It's a lot to think about it being from 1985, too. As in yikes elements. Lots of yikes. But watching a Cannon film is always full of peril.

    #171 Mechanic: Resurrection (2016)

D and Andrew return to the complex and intricate world of THE MECHANIC, wherein Jason Statham is an assassin who kills people with intricate "make it look like an accident" techniques, except when he just Stathams them, and it has nothing to do with the first movie. It's a weird time. Jessica Alba's in it, Tommy Lee Jones makes another inglorious 709 appearance. Very weird stuff.

  • Aug 10, 2025 · 1 hr 41 min

    #170 The Mechanic (2011)

D and Andrew make the seemingly fine choice of the Stath and the Fost and the Suth and the... Gold? Whatever. But it should be an okay watch but instead... THE MECHANIC drags the fellas off topic as they explore various related tangents, only to snap back for the film's very 2011 elements. It's summer of duologies so obviously, though, perfect setup for a sequel.

    #169 Conan the Destroyer (1984)

It's back to Hyperborea for D and Andrew, this time with Mr. Basketball USA Wilt Chamberlain, Grace Jones, Mako again, Tracey Walter because the fellas must suffer, and then, of course, the just teenage girl love interest for Arnold. Yikes on bikes. But there are no bikes in Hyperborea, just distressingly cheap sets (and some unfortunate special effects). It's very 1984, in other words... the bad 1984.
