Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira have fought each other twice before in kickboxing matches. Pereira won both of those matches. They fought again at UFC 281 on November 12, 2022. In this fight, Pereira won against Adesanya via technical knockout in the fifth round. At UFC 287 they will be meeting for the 2nd time in the UFC and for the 4th time in their careers.
