Maybe it sounded rude. Maybe it sounded insensitive. Or maybe the words simply didn’t communicate what was in our head. Example: Imagine a friend has just given a presentation. Afterward, you say: “Wow, that was actually really good.” And your friend looks at you. “Actually?” And suddenly you realize what you’ve done. “Wait! That came out wrong. I didn’t mean I expected it to be bad. I just meant you did a really great job.”
