Always Keep Them Guessing: The Relational Prediction Reset

What happens when people think they know exactly how you are going to respond? In this episode of You’re Probably Right, MCM introduces the idea of the Relational Prediction Reset, or RPR. This is not about manipulation. It is not about making people chase you. It is not about acting cold, becoming mysterious, making someone jealous, or playing games. It is about what happens when people have been around you long enough to learn your patterns, predict your reactions, and sometimes take your responses for granted. In relationships, someone may learn that if they pull away, you will chase. At work, someone may learn that if they ask late enough, you will stay. In friendships, someone may learn that if they stop trying, you will carry the whole connection. Over time, repeated behaviour can become expectation. And expectation can slowly become entitlement. MCM looks at how this plays out with husbands, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, bosses, employees, coworkers, friends, and anyone who has interacted with you long enough to believe they know which button to press. The point is not to become unpredictable in your character. The point is to stop being predictable in unhealthy patterns. Predictable character. Less predictable programming. This episode explores blue pill thinking, red pill thinking, George Costanza doing the opposite, prediction error, reciprocity, selective responsiveness, workplace boundaries, emotional regulation, and why communication alone does not always change a relationship that has already learned your old pattern. The bigger question is simple: Are people relating to who you are now, or are they still pressing buttons that belonged to an older version of you? If you have ever felt taken for granted, overused, overexplained, overgiven, overworked, or trapped in a role you accidentally taught people to expect from you, this episode is for you.
