In 1992, Vanity Fair published Lynn Hirschberg's profile on punk ‘it’ girl Courtney Love, who was then being courted by Madonna's record label and pregnant to 25-year-old Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. The story contained at least six factual errors and including claims that Love lied about her age and used heroin while pregnant. The piece triggered a Child Protective Services investigation, leading Love to later blame Hirschberg, in part, for Cobain's suicide.
