Turkey Travel Podcast with Emre Yilmaz

Emre Yilmaz

Turkey spans the high central plateau of Anatolia, a narrow coastal plain and several mountain ranges, with a strategic strip of territory north of the Turkish Straits lying in Europe. The show follows the realities of travelling in this landscape: dry hot summers, mild wet winters, and an interior that is harsher than the coasts.

He moves between Istanbul’s 15.8 million people and the smaller urban centres scattered through the interior; Ankara, Bursa and Gaziantep each appear as bases rather than stops. He also crosses the Turkish Straits into Eastern Thrace, the 3 per cent of the country that lies on the European side.

He returns to places after months away, watching how the light and the crowds change with the seasons. The interior of Anatolia, harsher in winter, becomes a different region by late spring. Episodes accumulate the way a long stay does, building a picture of Turkey from repeated visits to the same streets and landscapes.

Emre Yilmaz lives in Turkey and stays for two years, moving between cities, coastlines and smaller towns on a route that follows the seasons. Not a week-long visit — Emre is there in every kind of weather, working out where to eat on an ordinary Tuesday, which train to take, what a festival actually feels like from the pavement.

A new episode arrives every day. Each one is short and specific: one neighbourhood, one journey, one meal, one museum worth the detour — with the practical detail that matters. What it costs. When it closes. Whether the queue is worth it. What to do when it rains. Every episode carries a full transcript and chapter markers.
