Has Reform Already Lost?

Andy Burnham’s vapid strategy of guest starring on Gogglebox has worked, with Labour back above 30 per cent. While we might lament how easily fooled the British electorate are, the blame lies with Reform for failing to persuade people to vote for them. Worse still, Reform deliberately estranged thousands of former supporters, and produced Restore Britain — whom Reform now accuse of “splitting the vote.” But the problem Reform has is a credibility gap. It doesn’t matter what promises they’ve made: if people don’t trust unimpressive figures like Richard Tice to carry those policies out, they won’t vote for you. If the right hears Danny Kruger insist demographic change cannot be reversed, and that Afghans are the heirs of England, they won’t vote for you. They won’t vote to babysit third-worlders who hate us and were imported against our wishes when Rupert Lowe promises to deport them. And the value proposition of accepting a compromise with Reform because they’re more likely to win than Restore disappears when Reform are incapable of winning an election on their own merits, according to the polls. Restore is also rising because the more people who become aware of Rupert Lowe, the more have a favourable character judgment of him. The same is not true of Nigel Farage, who is despised by two-thirds of the country, and considered, whether true or not, to be in it for the money. However, there is no Reform without Farage, and Reform are unlikely to expel the spokespeople who routinely insult former supporters while demanding they vote for them anyway. Have Reform already lost the next election? Are the faults inextricable from the party? Or is there still time and capacity to admit fault and change course?
