What If Robert Baratheon Publicly Named Ned Stark Protector of the Realm

Ned gasps and watches as his friend limps towards the Iron Throne, using a cane as if he were an old man, while one hand is clutching his sides as if worried that something might fall back if he moves his arm aside. By now, the whole court has heard of his injury, but seeing it up close is something completely different, and many blanch at the sight. Even older lords and knights shudder at the sight, unused to seeing the king in such a state.

It is a distressing sight, but also inspiring.
