Learning to Wait (John 14:8-14)

show notes
Waiting can feel like wasted time, until you realize it’s often where your faith gets tested the most. We start with a simple frustration we all share and then step into John 14, where the disciples hear Jesus say He’s leaving them for a place they can’t go yet. Philip speaks up with a question that sounds a lot like ours: “Show us the Father.” He wants something tangible, something certain, something that makes the waiting easier.
Jesus’ reply is stunningly clear: seeing Him is seeing the Father. We talk through why this is one of the strongest statements of Christ’s deity in Scripture, and why His words and works become solid “hooks” you can hang your faith on. If you’ve ever wrestled with assurance of salvation, we connect the dots to the written record God gives us so we can know where we stand, not by feelings but by truth.
Then we tackle two promises that often get misunderstood: “greater works” and “whatever you ask in my name.” We explain how “greater” isn’t about outdoing Jesus with miracles, but about impact that lasts longer and reaches farther through the gospel. And we lay out two guardrails for prayer that protect you from disappointment and cynicism: asking in Jesus’ name and aiming for the Father’s glory. If you’re in a season of “not now,” this will help you wait with confidence. Subscribe for more, share this with a friend who’s discouraged, and leave a review.
