A is for Assata: The Evolution of a Revolutionary Woman

For our very first class, we're starting with Assata Shakur. Her story asks us to reconsider everything we've been taught about justice, freedom, resistance, and who gets remembered. We open with Revolutionary Devotionals, grounding ourselves in the words of Black thinkers and authors. Think of it as an affirmation, a meditation, and a reminder that our ancestors and elders still have something to teach us if we're willing to listen. Then we move into The ABCs of Our History, Before Assata Shakur became one of the most influential Black revolutionaries in modern history, she was a daughter, an organizer, a member of the Black Liberation Army, and a political prisoner. In our first class, we're moving beyond the headlines to explore the woman, the movement, and the political climate that shaped her story. Together, we'll unpack COINTELPRO, state repression, Black liberation, exile, and why Assata's words continue to challenge how we think about justice, freedom, and resistance. Finally, in "What It Is", we bring history into the present by reflecting on the stories of Nolan Wells, Cyrus Belton, and Karmelo Anthony. What is the state of the Black body and how do we begin to get foreal about self-dense and staying aware while being Black. So if this episode leaves you unsettled, inspired, or questioning what you've been taught, good. That's where learning truly begins young grasshopper. Episode 1 Library Episode 1 Playlist

Before Assata Shakur became one of the most influential Black revolutionaries in modern history, she was a daughter, an organizer, a member of the Black Liberation Army, and a political prisoner.
