What happens when religious tradition becomes more important than meeting people’s needs? Jesus’ answer to the Pharisees reveals who truly has authority over our rules, our culture, and even the Sabbath.
Summary
In Luke 6, Jesus confronts the Pharisees for placing rigid religious customs above compassion and human need. By pointing to David eating the consecrated bread and then healing a man’s withered hand on the Sabbath, Jesus makes clear that He is the Lord of the Sabbath—not human tradition or cultural expectation. This devotional challenges us to examine whether our own religious or secular norms have become idols that keep us from doing good and giving life. Christ calls us to honor God’s truth while refusing a judgmental spirit that values rules more than relationship and mercy.
