#73 - Combating Clumsiness with Parietal Lobe Training

What if you have a loss of sensation somewhere in the body? Or are known in your household as the clumsy one that bumps into things all the time? In this episode, I speak with my trusty podcast producer, Tony, all about the parietal lobe and how it relates to movement, sensory input, rehabilitation and spatial awareness. I discuss the importance of sensory processing, why sensory training sometimes goes nowhere, and why the parietal lobe may be the key to improving movement and sensation, and reducing pain. I discuss the neuroanatomy of the parietal lobe, related higher order systems, and common history findings that indicate the parietal lobe. I then tie it all together to come up with assessments, stimuli, drills and stacks that target the parietal lobe to improve sensation and movement, and decrease pain. This episode touches on proprioception, concussions, spatial awareness, left-right discrimination, dyslexia, the 8 Levels model, the cerebellum, spinal injury, visual drills, changes in body weight, gait testing, dual-tasking, sensory stimulation, manual techniques, stacking, juggling, ground-based movement, and more. Thank you to my podcast idea man and coach, Tony Fowler (Instagram: @tone_reverie) for helping me put together this episode!
