show notes
We explore the growing gap between the speed of modern tools and the rigidity of our governance frameworks, asking whether static design systems are becoming obsolete in favor of dynamic logic. We examine Pekka Oskari Puhakka’s argument that governing LLM skills might be a more effective basis for evolving systems than maintaining static component libraries, while also addressing the anxiety around how rapid tool adoption might erode our core design thinking skills. Finally, we look at real-world friction points, from the opacity of hiring pipelines to the failure of standardization in e-commerce, to see where our current interfaces are failing to impose order on physical reality.
From The Feed
- State of a system (Pekka Oskari Puhakka) — Puhakka argues that governing design systems with LLM skills is more effective than maintaining static component libraries.
- What’s !important #20: GTA 6 Scroll Effects, Scrollspies, random() (Daniel Schwarz) — Modern CSS features like scroll effects and random functions enable complex, state-driven interactions without heavy JavaScript.
- What I learned teaching AI prototyping at university (Jay Aragones) — Teaching AI prototyping risks eroding foundational design skills as students confuse tool capabilities with product features.
From The Thread
- open source agentic development environment for engineers and designers. (r/ProductDesign) — An open-source agentic development environment is introduced to bridge the gap between designers and engineers.
- Does anyone else feel like clothing sizes are completely inconsistent across brands? (r/ProductDesign) — Inconsistent clothing sizes across brands highlight a failure of digital interfaces to impose order on non-standardized physical reality.
- Our service blueprint only got used once ops filled in the backstage lane themselves (r/UserExperienceDesign) — Service blueprints become effective only when operations staff co-create the process rather than receiving a static artifact.
