Why Victoria has a new Premier

Jacinta Allan has resigned as Victorian Premier four months out from an election, after her Deputy Premier Ben Carroll announced a leadership challenge on Monday. Allan, who initially vowed to fight for her position, stood down on Tuesday, saying a lengthy leadership battle this close to the election would leave the state “in a position of uncertainty”.
