076 - Event Horizon (1997)

Damn you, 2026! RIP Sam, this one's for you! Welp, we lost another legend in the great Sam Neill this year...and somehow, amazingly, Paul W. S. Anderson's Event Horizon (1997) was already next in our lineup. Almost as if it were written...in the stars? (Get it? Cuz space?) All jokes aside, we sat down for a fun discussion on a very underrated sci-fi horror flick in this one. Maybe not the best graphics in certain spots, maybe it had its fair share of shortcomings due to studio meddling, and sure, it also fought a hell of an uphill battle going up against the JUGGERNAUT that is James Cameron's Titanic (1997), but damn it, this is a good movie that deserved better! With a stellar lineup (including Laurence Fishburne, Jason Isaacs, and Joely Richardson), and some pretty disturbing imagery making great use of practical gore, atmospherically, we think this movie knocks it out of the park, and it goes places you might not expect! I mean, how can you go wrong with Hellraiser in space?...well...unless it's actually the Hellraiser movie that WAS in space...nevermind, anyway... Grab some Tang and some freeze dried rations and come hang out in Zero G's with us for this one! You won't regret it! Hell is just a word...
