Jeremy Kyle explores Labour being branded the 'Welfare Party' on Wednesday after Andy Burnham said he would never prioritise defence spending over benefits. In an extraordinary intervention, the Prime Minister said he was serious about national security, but it 'cannot come at the expense of social security'. Kemi Badenoch said Mr Burnham had 'said the quiet part out loud', adding: 'For our new PM, social security – welfare – comes above national security. Do you believe Labour will ever cut the benefits bill? Pensioner Benefits: £177.7 billion (around 55% of the total expenditure), which includes £146.1 billion for the State Pension. Working-Age and Children Welfare: £145.0 billion, including Universal Credit and non-DWP welfare. Disability and Health Support: £77.1 billion for people with health conditions and disabilities. Housing Benefits: £37.3 billion President Trump makes a major promise at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas: $5,000 for every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans win both the House and Senate in the midterms. A spokesperson for the Israeli Government calls Ed Miliband a 'failed figure' and a 'joke' who 'made Britain irrelevant', in response to the West Bank sanctions row. We also learn that Ministers ‘ignored official advice’ on Israeli settlements trade ban. Benjamin Netanyahu says Labour restricted trade with Israel to protect Starmer’s seat.
