CROWD returns with ‘Human Frequency’, the second chapter of its VA series CROWDX. Curated by FJAAK and Elli Acula, the ten-track release brings together established figures and a new generation of artists, further exploring the space between techno’s roots and its evolving sound. Driven by rhythm, intensity and a shared connection to the dancefloor, CROWDX reflects the Berlin-based label’s musical uncompromising vision, taking its sound into new spheres.
Rooted in Berlin’s club culture, CROWD continues to explore different shades of groove-driven, high-energy techno. Moving between hypnotic rhythms, raw percussion and powerful dancefloor moments, ‘CROWDX002: Human Frequency' brings together ten distinct interpretations of a shared musical vision.
The Advent & DJ Dextro open the release with ‘Leave No Trace’, combining a deep, driving kick, synthesized toms and a frenzied sine lead that builds towards a powerful climax. Gina Demarchi follows with ‘About You’, layering rolling drums and heavy percussion over a weighty dub chord. FJAAK’s ’Surveillance’ takes a stripped-back approach, pairing heavy chord stabs with sparse percussion and a swelling breakdown. Elli Acula ventures into more atmospheric territory on ‘Girl From The Moon’, where a tough, rolling groove meets eerie pads and fragmented vocals. E.DN continues with ‘Valkyr’, driven by rumbling low-end frequencies and an ominous spoken-word vocal.
Rebecca Delle Piane pushes the intensity with ‘Protozoa’, built around a fast, forward-driving bassline, while Norman Nodge brings his distinctive approach to dub techno with ‘NN-Dub 5.5’, exploring the interplay between a single chord and rhythmic, call-and-response percussion. Staim draws on the tribal techno sound of the early 2000s with ‘Everybody’, building layers of drums around an evolving chord motif. J.Blofeld shifts the focus towards hypnotic minimalism on ‘Zetu’, combining rolling kicks, subtle shakers and a simple two-note synth loop. Chontane closes the compilation with ‘Strawberries Are Nuts’, building tension through sub-heavy kicks, sparse percussion and droning atmospheres.
