Danvers State Hospital & the Secret Ward C... | Conspiracy Theories
transcript
show notes
Beneath a quiet Massachusetts hillside, where condominiums now stand and children play on landscaped walking paths, there was once a Gothic asylum with tunnels that ran deeper than any official map admitted. Tonight we descend into the documented horror and conspiratorial shadow of Danvers State Hospital, from its humane Kirkbride-era origins to the overcrowding, the lobotomies, and the sealed lower section that staff called Ward C.
Follow orderly Thomas Hale as he pieces together the quiet patient transfers, the men in civilian suits carrying locked aluminum cases, and the Cold War research program that was never supposed to exist. Then go further, into the convergence phenomenon, the shared visions, the identical symbols scratched into isolation walls by patients who never met, and Patient Forty Seven, who described a room older than the hospital where the barrier is thinnest.
This is a story about what the mind filters out, and what might be waiting on the other side of that filter.
