WE TRUST (reworking of original instrumental track, In prog we trust, by Silvio Vinci)
They sold tomorrow by the pound,
We queued around the square.
I bought an hour without a sound
And spent it standing there.
The man behind the counter smiled,
“Your change is on its way.”
He counted out my younger years
And called it one more day.
I want the time they couldn’t sell,
The hour that never rang a bell.
A little room to change my mind,
A life the numbers can’t define.
A blackbird landed on the clock
Above the market gate.
It sang across the closing bell
And made the whole town wait.
You laughed and put your watch away,
I gave the hour back.
We took the long way through the fields
And never checked the map.
I want the time they couldn’t sell,
The hour that never rang a bell.
A little room to change my mind,
A life the numbers can’t define.
Take the long way.
Let it bend.
Some things begin
Where the numbers end.
