CONCLUDE A SPEECH, I BEG YOU (by Silvio Vinci)
The coffee’s cold,
you’re talking still.
Your bag is packed
beside the sill.
You turn away,
then look at me.
Just say the thing
you need to say.
Say it plain,
say it slow.
If you’re leaving,
let me know.
Take a breath,
let it land.
Stay a moment,
take my hand.
A taxi waits,
you let it go.
You pull me close,
then whisper low:
“I’m tired of trying
to explain.
I want to stay.
Can we try again?”
Say it plain,
say it slow.
If you’re leaving,
let me know.
Take a breath,
let it land.
Stay a moment,
take my hand.
Your bag stays there.
The morning comes.
We let it in.
The kettle hums.
