New Lows in Sex Ed Policy
In this episode, we discuss the Trump administration's new teen pregnancy prevention plan, which shifts funding away from evidence-based programs toward abstinence-only education and fertility awareness methods. We reviewed Project 2025's core goals for sex education and adolescent health, including the elimination of comprehensive sex education, replacement with abstinence-only programs, and restrictions on relationships, gender, and LGBTQ terminology. We will examine how these changes affect specific federal programs like PREP (Personal Responsibility Education Program) and TPPP (Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program), noting that new guidelines discourage contraception use and focus on fertility awareness instead, as well as how some state legislation conflicts with federal requirements by allowing schools to teach unscientific, medically-inaccurate information and restrict discussions about healthy relationships and consent.
