Bible teaching by Alex Vaca on the 6th September 2026. TEACHING NOTES: 1. God warns before He judges - verses 1-3 • God showed Amos a vision of locusts devouring Israel’s crops. • God’s warnings are expressions of mercy, calling us to repent while there is still time. 2. God responds to prayer - verses 4-6 • Amos then saw a consuming fire threatening the land. • Once again, Amos prayed for Israel. Once again, God relented. 3. God measures His people - verses 7-9 • In the third vision, God stood beside a wall holding a plumb line. • The plumb line revealed whether the wall was straight or crooked. • Israel appeared prosperous and religious, but God’s standard exposed its true condition. • We must measure our lives by God’s Word, not by culture or comparison with others. 4. God’s patience must not be mistaken for approval • Israel continued sinning because judgment did not come immediately. • They assumed their prosperity meant that God was pleased with them. • But delayed judgment did not mean cancelled judgment. God’s patience gives us time to repent; it does not give us permission to continue in sin. 5. The opportunity to repent will not remain forever • Amos prayed after the first two visions, but he was silent after the third. • God declared: “I will never again pass by them.” The warning had now become the verdict. • God’s supply of grace is not limited, but the opportunity to receive His mercy will not remain open forever. 6. Jesus is our only hope God is patient and merciful, but His warnings must be taken seriously. Do not wait until the warning becomes the verdict. Turn to Christ while there is still time.
