In Taiwan, “red wine” used to mean something other than grape wine. It meant âng-lō͘-chiú (紅露酒), a red rice wine. When did it arrive in Taiwan? How is it made? Where does that red color come from? It was a favorite of poets during the Japanese colonial period, and it’s still being made today, though fewer people drink it now. In this episode, we talk about Taiwan’s original “red wine.”
