English Summary
The audio on my podcast — the morning news roundup and the readings of my essays — is, in fact, an AI voice based on my own. Recently I also started a separate series in which I talk in my real voice. This essay is about why I decided to keep the two apart.
It began at my collaborative Live with Shunsuke-san. He and Kura-san, who joined us on stage, told me that it would be better to share things in my own voice. I was glad to hear it, and it stayed with me. The next day I wondered whether I should read the morning news in my own voice too. But my mornings are spent seeing my family off and doing housework, with the post prepared in between; there is hardly a moment to sit quietly at a microphone. I realized I can deliver the news at the same time every morning precisely because the AI voice helps me. If I switched, I probably couldn’t keep it up.
So I divided them: the AI voice for the news and the essays on the podcast, my own voice when I talk about myself. Once I decided I didn’t have to do everything in my own voice, I felt lighter. My real recordings have slips and pauses — and yet the response has been warm. Perhaps a voice that stumbles carries something a perfectly read one doesn’t.
It isn’t about which is right. As with the palette I once wrote about, you don’t have to take every piece of advice exactly as given; you can receive it in a form you can keep going with. Both voices are letters from me.
