The Haunted Ridges Asylum, formerly known as the Athens Lunatic Asylum, is one of Ohio's most infamous paranormal locations. Opened in 1874, the massive Kirkbride-style hospital treated thousands of patients over more than a century before closing in 1993. Today, the historic buildings are part of Ohio University, but the property remains surrounded by chilling legends. Visitors and paranormal investigators have reported shadow figures, unexplained voices, footsteps in empty hallways, and eerie feelings throughout the grounds. Whether the hauntings are real or simply echoes of a tragic past, The Ridges continues to be one of the most fascinating and haunted places in Ohio.
