The Bishop’s Basement: Gary Heidnik’s Sinister Eugenics Plot

This episode details the horrific crimes of Gary Heidnik, a Philadelphia man who abducted and tortured six women in his basement during the late 1980s. Driven by a twisted desire to create a "perfect race," Heidnik intended to impregnate his captives while keeping them isolated from society. Despite his unassuming home, he was a wealthy stock investor who used a self-established church to protect his finances from taxes. The narrative highlights the tragic death of two victims and the courageous escape of Josefina Rivera, whose actions led to the rescue of the remaining survivors. This historical account serves as a preview for a true crime television series exploring the lives of those who survived serial killers.
