Today we talk through the trending question - do I have ADHD or is this perimenopause?
Two of us are officially diagnosed with ADHD, one is not. But the question comes up all the time.
As Aliza shares her questions and Jenn and & Karen share their lived experience, we touch on:
- The changes in how we could cope with multiple competing tasks before and no longer can
- The ways that ADHD shows up differently in girls and women, and how shame plays a role in missed diagnoses
- The reality that there are things that can look like ADHD that aren't - that are hormonal or even immune/inflammation driven
- Hormones being protective against neuroinflammation and the role that plays in ADHD like presentations in perimenipause
- Time blindness and time optimism
- The continuum of presentation of ADHD
- The many other things that can present with focus. attention and memory, including trauma, chronic illness, and pain
- Food sensitivities and ADHD symptoms
- The difference between an inflammatory response and a wiring difference
- A biochemical overlap in the pathways related to pain and attention
