PADRES POSTCAST: Rengifo’s Pinch-Hit Homer Lifts Padres! Bullpen Shuts Down Marlins in 4-2 Win

The Padres found a different way to win Friday night in Miami.

 

After dropping three heartbreaking one-run games in Atlanta, San Diego responded with outstanding pitching, elite defense, and one massive swing from Luis Rengifo.

 

Rengifo’s pinch-hit two-run homer in the eighth inning broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Padres a huge 4-2 victory over the Marlins, extending Miami’s losing streak to 10 consecutive games.

 

The bullpen was outstanding all night. Kyle Hart stabilized the game after Germán Márquez exited early. Bryan Rodriguez escaped traffic, Adrián Morejon delivered another clutch performance to earn the win, and Mason Miller slammed the door for another save.

 

One of the biggest moments never showed up in the box score. Fernando Tatis Jr. raced into the right-field corner to cut off what looked like an easy double, holding Kyle Stowers to a single. Moments later, Morejon struck out Xavier Edwards to end the threat, preserving the tie and setting the stage for Rengifo’s game-winning blast.

 

Manny Machado continued to produce, Ty France collected another multi-hit game, and the Padres opened the series with exactly the kind of complete team win they desperately needed in the National League Wild Card race.
