PADRES POSTCAST: Padres’ Furious 9th-Inning Rally Falls Short After Craig Stammen, Bullpen Collapse

The Padres looked dead.

After Michael King delivered another quality start and Jackson Merrill tied the game with a mammoth home run, everything unraveled in a disastrous six-run eighth inning after Craig Stammen turned the game over to Wandy Peralta and Randy Vásquez.

 

Down 7-1 entering the ninth, San Diego refused to quit.

 

Gavin Sheets started the rally, Fernando Tatis Jr. ripped a two-run triple, Luis Rengifo stunned everyone with a two-run homer off Raisel Iglesias, and suddenly the Padres had the tying run at the plate before Atlanta finally escaped with a 7-6 victory.
