PADRES POSTCAST: PADRES COMPLETE THE SWEEP With 5-3 WIN! Manny & Merrill Go Deep in 4-Run 8th

The Padres looked dead in the water after falling behind 3-0, but championship-caliber teams keep giving themselves chances. San Diego erupted for FOUR runs in the eighth inning as Manny Machado crushed a go-ahead two-run homer, Jackson Merrill followed with another massive blast, and Luis Campusano added the insurance RBI that sealed a 5-3 victory over the Marlins.

 

Walker Buehler battled through adversity and matched a season-high with seven strikeouts before handing it over to one of the best bullpens in baseball. Yuki Matsui, Wandy Peralta, Adrian Morejon and Mason Miller combined to slam the door as the Padres completed the three-game sweep.

 

Manny Machado earns Player of the Game honors, but Jackson Merrill deserves plenty of love after continuing one of the hottest stretches in baseball. Merrill is now hitting .433 over his last eight games with five home runs and eight RBIs, and he’s becoming one of the biggest difference-makers in this lineup.

 

The Padres finish the road trip 5-5 after a rough start and now head home with momentum for a very important homestand against the Rockies and Giants.
