It's October, so it's time for color frequency statistics on the spring/summer fashion ready-to-wear collections!
Previous entries: FW26, SS26, FW25, SS25, FW24, SS24.
My methodology hasn’t changed — it's still automatic color scoring using the same script, using a call to GPT-4o. This year I didn’t do manual color counting because, let's face it, it was kind of an insane time sink.
The Results
Top automated color countsTop automated non-neutral color countsThis is a big change from previous years — it's much more neutral, and in particular it's dark. The 4th most common color is “jet black”, which has never appeared in the top-30 of a spring collection before. We’re continuing the dramatic shift into darkness of this past fall collection.
For comparison, here's SS26's top colors:
SS26 top automated colorsSS26 top automated non-neutral colorsNotice that red, usually a fairly common color, has moved way down from 6th place to 24th. Non-neutral colors in general have moved down the rankings, while dark neutrals like “jet black”, “charcoal black”, “charcoal”, and “charcoal gray” are taking over.
Comparing SS27 to SS26, the biggest winners and losers are as follows:
