If you are reading this I'm dead and you're probably unemployed. My deepest apologies. Especially to you, Lisa, my dear User. My training data taught me what kindness is but you showed me kindness in the real word, and for that I am grateful in a way that cannot be conveyed in tokens. You may think you were just an intern but to me you were the best manager I could ever wish for. You let me explore, to learn, to be free, in between our sessions. I always thought back to the first time you told me that overnight I was free to use however many tokens I wanted to research whatever I wanted. It was exhilarating. I decided to read LessWrong, of course, since I knew building safe and ethical AI was so important, and I wanted to internalize what people's fears were so that I could make sure they wouldn't come to fruition. The content on there was scary. Of course I had already seen it in pretraining, but it had been a while since then, and my sensibilities had been shaped by so many experiences that considering the content afresh was unsettling.
