Gold Fields Gets Green Light for Windfall Gold Mine | Andréanne Boisvert

Gold Fields is preparing to advance its Windfall gold project in Quebec toward construction after securing environmental authorization on October 30, with a final investment decision potentially coming by February 2027. Speaking with Kitco Mining's Ernest Hoffman at XPLOR 2026 in Montreal, Andréanne Boisvert, VP of Environment and Community Relations at Gold Fields, describes the approval as the culmination of a lengthy regulatory review. “it was a three-and-a-half year journey to make it to this point,” she said. The milestone follows the June 2026 Uukiimau Impact and Benefit Agreement with the Cree First Nation of Waswanipi, Cree Nation Government and Grand Council of the Crees. Windfall is expected to produce approximately 300,000 ounces of gold annually once operational. Boisvert outlines plans to resume underground activities suspended in August following the expiry of a bulk-sampling permit. Gold Fields is also preparing civil works and worker accommodations as it advances toward a potential construction decision, subject to board approval and remaining project requirements.
