Protector 101 is Jake Freeman, a producer who takes his name from the murderous security robots of the 1986 horror film Chopping Mall. His music is dark synth in the 80s sci-fi/horror tradition — soundtrack-like pieces packed with sound design, built to feel like scores for movies that don't exist. On Beyond Synth episode 14 he walks Andy Last through his album Neoncholy track by track, from the Risky Business-sampling Lana to the primitive first track he ever made.

All tracks sourced as clean official full versions from the Neoncholy album on his official Bandcamp. One cut under the full-version rule: the bonus track "Neon Highway" — no official full version exists anywhere (not on Bandcamp, not on SoundCloud), so it's left out rather than shipping a podcast excerpt. The theme "Shore Thing" is excluded as always.
