Episode 10: The Testimony of Simplicity
A special series on Quaker values and testimonies
In 2026, Introducing Early Quakers expanded into a new series exploring the values and testimonies that continue to shape Quaker faith and practice today.
In this episode, Australian Friend Wayne Baker Smith reflects on the testimony of Simplicity—not merely as owning less or living with fewer possessions, but as a form of spiritual simplicity: letting go of all that obscures our ability to hear and respond to the Light.
Drawing on Quaker writings, the experience of silent worship, and the teachings of early Friends, this episode invites us to consider:
• What competes with God's voice for our attention?
• What do we need to let go of to see others as God sees them?
• How does simplicity arise from listening and waiting upon the Spirit?
Written by Wayne Baker Smith
Edited and narrated by Michael Corbett
Introducing Early Quakers is a podcast sharing the history, spirituality, and continuing witness of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).
