From Rage to Redemption: Forgiving the Woman Who Killed My Son | Matthew Hill
transcript
show notes
Born and raised around Kansas City’s 12th Street, Matt grew up surrounded by two completely different influences. His mother taught him how to survive the streets, while his father introduced him to church, discipline, hard work and life outside the neighborhood.
The streets eventually pulled Matt into fighting, hustling, shootouts and relationships that repeatedly placed his life in danger. However, the most devastating moment of his life came when his son, Lil Matt, was shot and killed.
Consumed by grief and rage, Matt believed revenge would eventually send him to prison. To remain present for his other children and continue fulfilling his purpose, he made the painful decision to forgive the woman responsible for his son’s death.
Matt also discusses becoming a father at 13, discovering another son 15 years after his birth, surviving betrayal, losing close friends, repairing his relationship with his father and transforming himself into an entrepreneur, mentor and community leader.
Today, Matt works in financial services, owns AJ’s Bar & Grill in downtown Kansas City and helps others recognize that success often begins with a change in mindset.
This is a testimony about grief, fatherhood, forgiveness, faith, personal responsibility and allowing God to fight the battles that anger cannot win.
“Forgiveness is not for them. It is for you.”
May his wounds become beautiful scars. We pray you’ve been Indelibly Marked.
Content notice: This episode discusses gun violence, domestic violence, drug activity, grief and the death of a child.
