Missed Diagnoses in History Part II: Joan of Arc and King George the III
Streams straight from the publisher. podnod never proxies or re-hosts episode audio.
In this episode of historical psychiatric diagnoses we continue the “arc” (get it) with the story of a young girl with vivid hallucinations who galvanized the French army and a wise king who lost his sanity late in life. The interesting thing about these cases, however, is that they may have more underlying medical issues and in fact, the psychospiritual and somatic issues of the past are just as intertwined as they are today. Even to the point where we have to correct ourselves and realize that we may have been calling these incorrectly for a while.
