Why Ancient Civilizations were so obsessed with Vases?

We all have decorative vases in our home. Everybody from our parents to grandparents to their parents has been using vases as a decoration element in their homes. Even when you look at the pictures of ruins of ancient civilization across the world, they are also covered with vases.
