3 Things That Successful Couples Do Differently
transcript
show notes
After more than 15 years of helping people heal their relationships, I've noticed something interesting about couples who manage to build lasting, fulfilling relationships.
It's not necessarily that they share the same values, have incredible chemistry, or agree on what their future should look like.
In fact, some of the most successful couples I've worked with have been through incredibly difficult experiences, from financial struggles and health challenges to infidelity and loss.
So what makes the difference?
In this week's episode of Heal Your Relationships, 3 Things That Successful Couples Do Differently, I'm sharing the patterns I've noticed in relationships that not only survive difficult times but continue to feel meaningful and connected.
- First of all, there is something I call 'Earned Security' which is the ability to develop secure attachment even if you didn't grow up experiencing it.
- Another is a skill that doesn't get nearly enough attention is ... 'Micro-repairs' The small ways we can prevent an argument from spiraling into the same painful cycle, right in the middle of the conflict.
- And then there's 'Interdependence' which I explain using a simple analogy to explore how couples can maintain their individuality without losing their connection.
Because a successful relationship isn't just about staying together for decades, it's more about still enjoying being together after all those years!
