University of Hawaii researchers said Hurricane Lala dumped enough rainwater on the islands to fill nearly 2 million Olympic-sized pools, with Hawaii Island alone receiving 833 billion gallons of rain. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is closing all park sites at 5 p.m. ahead of the new storm system, Tropical Storm Moke. Hawaiian Electric expects nearly all impacted customers to be restored on Hawaii Island by today, except for customers in remote and severely damaged areas.
