In 1991, I reached the magical age of 55 years. I was now eligible for early retirement. My Air National Guard commander at that time considered that 55 was required retirement. Early one morning, I was driving to Nashville to appeal my case with the Adjunct General; I stopped at a Hardee’s. As I sat to eat, I thought the lady had undercharged me, so I looked at the receipt on my tray. I discovered that I had received a non-requested senior discount.
God has blessed me to live long enough that I now know I am in the checkout generation. With scripture in mind, I can keep my faith strong.
Psalm 23, verse 4, KJV
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
God has blessed me with family, friends, a medical system, and my lodge and church connections to keep me cared for and help me keep my faith strong and focused. Each day I remember my military training in religious terms: I am only on this earth in TDY (Temporary Duty) status, and my job is to make it a little better because I was here. God seems to provide daily opportunities for me to do my job.
Paraphrasing from Paul’s words in
1 Corinthians 15:56-58a (KJV)
The sting of death is sin;…But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, …
My prayer is:
Thank you God for one more day; please guide and direct me to do your will this day. Amen
