Unlearning "Stupid": Reframing the ADHD Identity

Get in touch to see how I can help you! https://giftedwithadhd.co.uk/ In this solo episode, host Juliet tackles one of the most painful realities of living with undiagnosed ADHD: the deeply ingrained belief that you are simply not smart enough. For decades, Juliet used her struggles with executive function—planning, organizing, and following through—as hard evidence of her own incompetence. It wasn't until her late-in-life diagnosis that she realized these structural brain differences have absolutely nothing to do with intelligence, capability, or worth. Drawing on her own experiences, her work with coaching clients, and the pivotal insights of Jessica McCabe’s TED Talk Failing at Normal, Juliet breaks down how to dismantle the "stupid" narrative and stop gaslighting yourself. About the Host: Juliet was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50, after a lifetime of believing she was fundamentally flawed—without realising there was a biological explanation behind her struggles. Years of executive dysfunction, perimenopause, and rising anxiety had left her overwhelmed and questioning her own potential. Her diagnosis marked a turning point. She immersed herself in understanding ADHD and, in doing so, discovered something even more transformative: a spiritual perspective on what it means to be human. Through this lens, Juliet was able to release limiting identities shaped by five decades of misunderstanding herself. She learned how to navigate emotions—like anxiety—with greater ease. She has two-years training in counselling and now has an established coaching practice supporting adults. Blending practical strategies with grounded spirituality, Juliet helps her clients find clarity, inner peace, and the confidence to live their life with purpose to reach their full potential and thrive with ADHD.
