It’s more than just dirt…
When you walk to school, play football or sit in a park, you probably don’t think much about the soil beneath your feet.
But soil is one of the most important natural resources on Earth.
It grows much of the food we eat, stores water, supports wildlife and helps regulate the climate. It also supports businesses around the world — from farmers and food companies to clothing manufacturers and cosmetics businesses.
In fact, around 95% of the world’s food depends on soil. Soil is also home to an estimated 59% of all life on Earth, much of it microscopic and hidden from view.
So perhaps we should stop thinking of soil as simply “dirt”.
Soil is a living system.
