Why Does EVERY Game Have the Same Mechanics Now?
transcript
show notes
Crafting. Skill trees. Battle passes. Detective vision. Yellow paint. Parrying. Once you notice them, you start seeing them EVERYWHERE.
Some game mechanics genuinely make games better. Others increasingly feel like they’ve been bolted on because somebody, somewhere, decided every modern game needs the same checklist of features.
So this week on Gaming Views, we’re asking a simple question: Which gaming mechanics are actually worth keeping — and which ones desperately need to disappear?
The conversation moves from mechanics that probably just need a little restraint to others Dan H would happily throw directly into a fire — particularly battle passes and live-service monetisation. And somehow his blood pressure survives the episode.
We also kick things off with an update on the Gaming Views game release calendar app, designed to make it much easier to find upcoming games, wishlist them and get reminders when they're about to launch.
