transcript
show notes
🎙️ Join Heather, Stu and Tom for a slightly smaller crew this week as they dive into the world of cutscenes in games. Do you love them or hate them? Are they essential storytelling or just something that gets in the way of the action? We explore the best, the worst, and everything in between — plus the usual pickups, gaming news, and chaos. Stick around for the quiz at the end too!

🎮 What we've been playing:
Stu has been living the racing life and dabbling in the macabre:
Cruising around and unlocking cars in Forza — "it's just simply good"
Hooked on Black Jacket, a Balatro-style blackjack roguelike with a purgatory twist
Finally started Resident Evil 4 Remake at Tom's urging, and loving the early village chaos
Tom had a huge haul of retro pickups:
Fixed his Mega CD woes with a new Mega CD 2, picking up Wolf Child, Soul Star/Cobra Command, and a Japanese Resident Evil 5 tin
Grabbed Super Famicom copies of Star Fox and A Link to the Past, plus a Dreamcast internet starter pack
Finished Resident Evil 8 (fun, if a bit frustrating) and dabbled on a friend's Sega 32X and MSX/Sharp X68000 retro rigs
Completed Cannon Spike and started the Kojima classic Snatcher on Mega CD
Heather balanced pickups with a surprise return to Assassin's Creed:
New Mega Drive grabs including Menace, Spider-Man, Urban Strike and Home Alone, plus PS2 titles Magna Carta and Clock Tower 3
Picked up a rare cancelled/unreleased South Park cart for Game Boy Color, complete with a DIY box project
Ended up diving back into Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced despite herself — buggy but beautiful, and a joy to replay 13 years on
📰 Gaming News Highlights:
Sony's Digital Backlash Overshadows Wolverine: A big new Marvel's Wolverine trailer got buried under continued backlash to PlayStation's all-digital future
Ubisoft's Quieter Year Ahead: A lighter release schedule follows Black Flag Resynced, with bigger Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Ghost Recon entries planned down the line
Elder Scrolls 6 Still Years Away: Bethesda confirms it's still in development on the new Creation Engine 3, with no release date yet
GAME Goes Into Administration: What's left of the UK retailer is now mostly confined to Sports Direct shelf space
🎮 Upcoming Releases:
Halo: Campaign Evolved — 28th July
Mistfall Hunter — 29th July
Kusan: City of Wolves — 30th July
