Be Kind, Rewind

Matthew takes the host chair this week with Kris as an unusually quiet producer. They're joined by Ron Efroni and James Bayer from Flox for a long conversation about Nix. Ron co-founded Flox and is also the president of the NixOS Foundation. James gives a live demo, going from flox search to flox activate with no commit SHA anywhere in sight, and Matthew finally gets an answer to a flake.lock code review problem: what exactly am I approving when the diff is one hash for another? Ron makes the cancel worthy claim that Nix is not hard, it just lacks opinionation by design, which turns out to be the entire reason Flox exists. Then the conversation turns to agents, why skills are software, and the company that uses Flox to turn back time on a model and replay the exact environment a bad answer came out of.
