show notes
We challenge ourselves to tell the difference between trials God uses to build perseverance and temptations we keep choosing because they feel familiar. We connect James 1:12, Hebrews 12:1, and Proverbs 3:5–6 to one question that won’t let go: what “backpack” are we carrying that God is asking us to put down?
• James 1:12 as a picture of perseverance and promise
• God strengthens us through trials but does not tempt us to sin
• the trap of excuses and the cost of comfort and convenience
• pride, fear, and control as unhealthy attachments
• being tested by life versus being trapped by repeated choices
• Hebrews 12:1 and the call to throw off what hinders
• Ecclesiastes 3 and the wisdom of keeping versus throwing away
• surrender as releasing the illusion of control
• healing, peace, and transformation requiring obedience and sacrifice
• asking God for discernment and honest self-examination
• trusting people God brings for perspective and accountability
