Cloud Orchestration: The Middle Ground Between Raw AWS and Managed SaaS

Send us Fan Mail Cloud teams have traditionally faced two choices. They can use raw infrastructure from providers such as AWS, Azure, or DigitalOcean, gaining control and flexibility but taking on the complexity of networking, security, Kubernetes, databases, deployment pipelines, backups, monitoring, and scaling. Alternatively, they can choose a managed SaaS hosting platform that simplifies operations but may limit infrastructure access, pricing control, customization, data-location choices, and long-term portability. In this episode, we explore the middle path: cloud orchestration. Cloud orchestration connects infrastructure provisioning, application deployment, development environments, CI/CD, security, scaling, backups, and ongoing operations into repeatable workflows. Unlike individual automation tasks, orchestration coordinates the entire application lifecycle. We also examine how the Bring Your Own Cloud model allows organizations to run applications inside their own cloud accounts while using DevPanel to automate the underlying operational complexity. Topics covered include: The difference between automation and orchestration Raw AWS infrastructure versus managed SaaS hosting Cloud orchestration versus container orchestration The advantages of customer-owned cloud accounts Browser-based development environments and VS Code Git-based development and deployment workflows Multi-cloud readiness Infrastructure control without building a large DevOps team How agencies can standardize operations across multiple clients The goal is not to replace AWS, Azure, or DigitalOcean. It is to make these platforms easier for development teams, agencies, nonprofits, and enterprises to use without giving up ownership of their infrastructure. Cloud teams have traditionally faced two choices.

Topics covered include:

  • The difference between automation and orchestration
  • Raw AWS infrastructure versus managed SaaS hosting
  • Cloud orchestration versus container orchestration
  • The advantages of customer-owned cloud accounts
  • Browser-based development environments and VS Code
  • Git-based development and deployment workflows
  • Multi-cloud readiness
  • Infrastructure control without building a large DevOps team
  • How agencies can standardize operations across multiple clients

The goal is not to replace AWS, Azure, or DigitalOcean. It is to make these platforms easier for development teams, agencies, nonprofits, and enterprises to use without giving up ownership of their infrastructure.
